A Study on of Subjective Health Status, Health Concern and Health Behavior of Elderly in Senior Centers

Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the relationships between subjective health status, health concern and health behavior of elderly in senior centers to provide the baseline data in developing community base health promotion programs.

Methods: The subjects of this study consist of 230 elderly from 20 senior centers located in G metro city. The data was collected through personal interview by trained interviewer using questionnaires from Nov. to Dec. 2006. Data was analyzed by SPSS Win 12.0 program with descriptive statistics t-test, ANOVA. Tukey as multiple range test, and the Pearson' corelation coefficient were done.

Results: The average age of the subject was 75years old. And the average duration of attending senior centers were 7.7years. The subjective health status of the subject was 59%, health concern 89%, and health behavior 75%. There was significant positive correlation between subjective health status and health behavior, and health concern and health behavior.

Conclusions: This study showed that those whom with better health status and more health concern, practise health behavior well. Health promotion program should carry on continuously to improve the health behavior of elderly attending senior health centers.
